5th mobility (Chania, Crete)
The 3rd High School of Chania, during the period 06 - 10 March 2023,
carried out the 5th mobility of the Erasmus+ / Action KA2 program, with code:
"2020-1-BG01-KA229-079247_6" and title: "Opportunities Beyond
the Classroom" and welcomed groups of teachers and students from 5
European schools (Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Romania).
Mobility in Chania had a special theme "Local historical trails".
It was an exciting week, full of experiential activities, excursions and
routes in space and time, group activities, substantial human communication and
mutual approach, happy moments and emotions. We chose historical paths of
our country, in which we listen to the voices of our ancestors and find pieces
of ourselves, collecting from the past mosaics that compose -along with many
others- our current physiognomy, who we are.
The first "historical paths" we walked were the narrow streets of
the old town of Chania. On the first day of the program, our students
guided the foreign students and teachers, presenting the most important
monuments that represent different historical periods and various influences,
and highlight the special cultural physiognomy of our city.
On the second day, a visit was made to the Gonia Monastery in Kolymbari,
followed by hiking on the historic path from Sirikari to Polyrinia in
Kissamos. After the outdoor traditional lunch, students and accompanying
teachers visited ancient Falasarna and walked on the beautiful beach.
On the third day the group visited the archaeological site of Knossos and
the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, where they attended a scheduled tour,
while on the way back there was a stop in Rethymno, the port and the old town.
On the fourth day, a scheduled visit was made to the historic dependency of
Agia Kyriaki in Varipetro, Chania, where the monastic brotherhood welcomed the
team and presented the history and activities of the monastery, focusing on
spiritual work, tradition and the protection of the natural
environment. The students and teachers had the opportunity to walk in the
habitat of Agia Kyriaki up to the cave of the Seven Children, and then visited
the lake of Agia.
The last day, a day of evaluation and farewell, was a day of great emotion
for all of us, teachers and students, but also a day of promise that the human
rapprochement and friendship created during these days will continue after the
end of the program.
The students of the European schools were hosted by students of our school who participated in the program. The contribution of parents to the success of the program was truly invaluable.
