The 3rd Gymnasium of Chania is located in the city of Chania, the second largest city of Crete with a population of about 54,000 inhabitants. The school is located in the center of the town and it is one of the oldest schools of Chania. It is a public school with 214 students aged 12-15 years old. It provides a 3-year compulsory education.

The 3rd Junior High School is housed in a building whose construction began in 1973 and was completed in 1977. At the beginning it ran as a girls gymnasium and until 2006 it was named “4th Junior High School”. It was renowned for the academic success of its students.

Till 2013 it had been working in a double morning-afternoon shift along with another school, and due to the increased number of students, many of the rooms which were supposed to be multi-functional, were turned into classrooms so as to cater for the lack of classrooms.

In 2013, after years of pressure to the education and local authorities, stakeholders decided for the two schools to co-house. However, the lack in premises and infrastructure is still evident. Yet, the level of education provided is quite adequate, since both the school staff and the students are doing their best to achieve quality education.

Its function and effectiveness is based, almost exclusively, on its human resources which compensates for the major lack of facilities. The building is dysfunctional and inadequate and evident is the need for updating in many areas, which, though, seems not feasible in the environment of the current economic crisis.

  The 3rd High School of Chania, during the period 06 - 10 March 2023, carried out the 5th mobility of the Erasmus+ / Action KA2 program, with code: "2020-1-BG01-KA229-079247_6" and title: "Opportunities Beyond the Classroom" and welcomed groups of teachers and students from 5 European schools (Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Romania). 6th mobility (Como, Italy)

  During the period 08-12 May 2023, the 3rd High School of Chania participated in the 6th mobility of the European program ERASMUS+KA2 entitled "OPPORTUNITIES BEYOND THE CLASSROOM" in Como, Italy, in collaboration with I.S.I.S Paolo Carcano, a multipurpose school, in which General education and Technical Education coexist and are combined, with many disciplines, directions and specialties, covering a wide range of sciences and arts. The theme of this mobility was "Language learning outside the classroom". 4 students of the Third Gymnasium participated, accompanied by the responsible teachers Alexia Kastanaki and Ioannis Gouleakis. The children received exemplary hospitality from families of Italian school students and had the opportunity to engage in interesting group activities with students from all partner European schools. They visited major sights of the city and toured the famous Lake Como by boat. They visited historic villas in the lakeside settlements of Be

4th mobility (Costesti, Romania)

  During the period 10-14 October 2022, the fourth mobility of our school's Erasmus+KA2 program took place, entitled: "Opportunities Beyond the Classroom" at the Liceul Tehnologic school in Costesti, Romania, on the topic of "Outdoor expeditions". The group of students of the 3rd Gymnasium was accompanied by teachers Antonis Choreftakis and Alexia Kastanaki. Each group had the opportunity to present activities carried out by its own school outdoors, which are related to scientific research, the environment, sports, history and tradition and exchange ideas and experiences. Students of all schools visited sights of the wider region (Arges), museums, mansions and castles (Bran fortress), as well as the remarkable historical city of Brassov and came into contact with the history and tradition of the place. They worked in multinational groups during the days of the program, collecting information from the educational excursions they carried out during these days and
